A Legacy of Growth,
Rooted in the Community

How a pavement egg stand in Kaduruwela evolved into a multi-sector corporate enterprise, driven by family heritage and an uncompromising vision for quality.

The Corporate Chronology

The BrichWood Milestones

Trace our path from grass-roots agricultural roots to dynamic retail, logistics, and multi-industry success.

01

The Foundation: Deep Roots and a Humble Spark

Every great enterprise is built upon a strong foundation. Long before our retail storefronts opened, the agricultural and real estate backbone of what is now Brichwood Enterprises was being cultivated.

Started and grown as a proud family heritage by Mr. Jude Fernando, Pulathisi Farms and our prime real estate properties established a standard of hard work and regional dedication.

It was upon this legacy that a new chapter began. In November 2024, Mr. Eshan Fernando took a bold, grassroots step into the retail world. Operations started not in a boardroom, but on the pavement in Kaduruwela, selling eggs directly to the community.

Crossing the Threshold: The Birth of a Brand

Driven by an unwavering commitment to freshness and customer service, those pavement sales rapidly increased. That momentum led to a critical milestone: moving off the street and opening our very first proper establishment under the name "Birchwood Farmers Market."

As regional demand surged, we recognized the need to scale and formalize our community presence. We opened our second outlet in Jayanthipura and officially rebranded the retail network as The Egg Mart.

We had crossed the threshold from a small local vendor to an established, multi-branch retail operation.

03

Identifying the Gap: The B2B Catalyst

Our rapid retail growth positioned us as a trusted supplier for B2B customers across the region. Working closely with local restaurants and bakeries, we identified a critical market gap: there was a severe lack of high-quality cooking oils available for massive-scale commercial cooking.

Seeing this opportunity, we forged a strategic alliance with the best direct cooking oil importer in Sri Lanka. This partnership gave birth to our flagship FMCG brand: Zora.

The Crucible of Growth: From 4 Cans to Market Leader

The journey of Zora began with a leap of faith. We launched the brand starting with just four 18kg cans of palm oil.

Through relentless groundwork and localized distribution, the market response was explosive. In less than a year, our monthly palm oil sales skyrocketed to over 300 cans just within the Kaduruwela main city limits.

This early triumph fueled a rapid, aggressive expansion. To meet surging consumer demand, we introduced Zora Coconut Oil, Sunflower Oil, Canola Oil, and premium Virgin Coconut Oil, successfully transitioning into domestic bottling for everyday households.

05

Expanding the Empire: Reaping the Rewards

With a powerful supply chain now in place, we began to leverage our strategic advantages across multiple sectors, bringing greater value to our community:

  • Zora Rice & Home Care: Launching essential rice productions and a highly demanded premium home care line.

  • Hospitality: Diversifying our portfolio by investing in Orient Rest for regional travelers.

  • Retail Expansion: Cementing our footprint with our third Egg Mart outlet in Sewagama.

Our Vision

The Horizon: Returning with the Elixir

Today, Brichwood Enterprises stands as a testament to the power of vision and perseverance. We have successfully merged Mr. Jude Fernando's foundational agricultural heritage with Mr. Eshan Fernando's dynamic retail expansion. From a single pavement stand to a multi-industry conglomerate, our journey is far from over.

As we continuously expand our delivery networks, Brichwood Enterprises remains focused on a singular horizon: becoming one of the largest, most trusted distributors and corporate entities in Sri Lanka.
